Your Gifts in Action

One of the most rewarding aspects of giving to the HaysMed Foundation is knowing that 100% of every gift is used to enhance healthcare services in western Kansas.

In fiscal year 2025, the HaysMed Foundation distributed more than $3.1 million to help build facilities, fund innovative programs, and equip our staff with state-of-the-art technology. Everyday donors to the HaysMed Foundation impact the health of your family friends, and community.

Hybrid Operating Room

A new era of heart health began with the opening of the state-of-the-art Hybrid Operating Room (OR) at HaysMed. The groundbreaking facility merges the precision of a cardiac Catheterization Lab with a surgical suite. This innovative space allows for procedures that once required open heart surgery to be performed with minimally invasive techniques that improve safety, recovery, and outcomes.

Thanks to generous gifts totaling more than $4.2 million from the Bickle Family Foundation, Dennis and Patricia Norris Family, J.E. and L.E. Maybee Foundation, Schmidt Foundation, Hadley Foundation, Verlin and Elaine Pfannenstiel, High Plains Farm Credit, and dozens of other contributors that made the highest level of care available to the people of our region.

Surgical Scopes

New surgical arthroscopes, funded through the generosity of Joe and Linda Glassman and Glassman Corporation, utilize advanced technology for the best images possible for our surgeons. This additional new set of scopes also allows for more procedures ultimately benefitting more patients and increasing the efficiency of our operating teams and facilities.

Continuous Cardiac Telemetry Upgrade

Thanks to more than $750,000 in community support the centralized telemetry room was upgraded with 20 new central monitors, computers and transmission infrastructure. The HaysMed telemetry staff monitors every patient needing continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring at HaysMed in addition to five critical access hospitals and a surgical center.

“Being able to monitor acute changes in heart rhythms is a lifesaving measure. Telemetry monitoring can determine acute heart attacks, electrolyte imbalances, unwanted side effects of medications, and diagnose intermittent arrythmias,” shared Brian Pfannenstiel, MSN, RN, Director of Critical Care.

Emergency Department Nurse Distress System

Thanks to $22,000 in donations from friends of HaysMed and generous $20,000 matching gifts from Joe and Linda Glassman/Glassman Corp. and the Hadley Foundation a nurse distress system was installed in the HaysMed Emergency Department. The new system will allow emergency department nurses to communicate directly with security and with the rest of the department via a device attached to their ID-badge when they need emergency assistance while providing patient care.

Thank You HaysMed Day

Thanks to the generosity of The Schmidt Foundation, Glassman Corporation (Joe and Linda Glassman), the Hadley Foundation, Gary and Mary Ann Shorman, and Women Who Lead, HaysMed Associates were honored at the third annual Thank You HaysMed Day. Associates received a meal from local food truck vendors and were entered into a drawing for amazing prizes. This special day expresses appreciation to the HaysMed Team for the care they provide.

Pediatric Education Materials

Your gifts provided interactive education materials for parents of children in the care of our pediatric clinic to ensure a healthy start for our youngest patients.

Telepsychiatry

Through a grant from the Centene Foundation and Sunflower Health Plan of Kansas, 24-7 access to psychiatry
providers is available to our inpatients, clinic, and emergency department patients through telemedicine technology.

Breast Care Center Modesty Gowns

Gifts from the Smoky Hill Ladies Golf Association and Bomgaars of Hays allowed the purchase and embroidery of new modesty gowns for our patients in the Breast Care Center.

Hadley Foundation Support of Nurse Residents

The Hadley Foundation continues to provide care for HaysMed nurses by underwriting the nurse resident bonus program and providing matching dollars for the Nurses’ Lounge.

Certifications & Education

Through the generosity of many donors, the HaysMed Foundation provides support for Associates seeking professional enrichment. Whether Associates are pursuing an advanced academic degree, professional certification, or attending a training program or conference, we are pleased to provide a variety of scholarships and continuing education grants to enhance their professional growth. These opportunities help Associates provide the best care and patient outcomes possible.

Annual Programs

Each year gifts to the HaysMed Foundation provide resources for annual projects that benefit our patients, Associates, and the community. These include: continuing support for baseline concussion screening for area high school student-athletes, Kid’s Quest — a program designed to keep area youth physically active during the summer, infant CPR kits and training for first-time parents, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certification for forensic nurses across the state, Comfort Cart — providing for comfort needs of family members accompanying loved ones in our facility as they navigate end-of-life, annual free flu vaccinations, and more than a dozen scholarships for Associates pursuing advanced degrees.
