Your Gifts in Action

In fiscal year 2024, the HaysMed Foundation distributed more than $3 million to help build facilities, fund innovative programs, and equip our staff with state-of-the-art technology. Every day donors to the HaysMed Foundation impact the health of your family, friends, and community.

One of the most rewarding aspects of giving to the HaysMed Foundation is knowing that 100% of every gift is used to enhance healthcare services in western Kansas.

The financial health of the HaysMed Foundation remains strong, and we are excited to feature a few ways that compassionate and generous donors continue to support the future of healthcare for our region.

Annual Programs

Each year gifts to the HaysMed Foundation provide resources for a number of annual projects that benefit our patients, Associates, and the community. These include: continuing support for baseline concussion screening for area high school student-athletes, Kid’s Quest — a program designed to keep area youth physically active during the summer, infant CPR kits and training for first-time parents, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certification for forensic nurses across the state, Comfort Cart — providing for comfort needs of family members accompanying loved ones in our facility as they navigate end-of-life, the annual drive-thru flu vaccine clinic, and more than a dozen scholarships for Associates pursuing advanced degrees.

DSCI Patient Resource Guides, Vision RT, Wigs, Supplies

Thanks to more than $20,000 in donations from friends of HaysMed, the Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute (DSCI) continues to provide personalized Patient Resource Guides to newly diagnosed cancer patients. The guides are specially customized for each oncology patient to help navigate their diagnosis, treatment plans, complicated medications, schedules, and outcomes.

Program funds supported the purchase of AlignRT system for Radiation Oncology. The system provides postural video showing clear positioning guidance which helps clinicians achieve greater treatment accuracy and efficiency. This new system can also eliminate the need for alignment tattoos while reducing treatment time and radiation exposure to healthy tissue and organs.

The DSCI Boutique continues to provide wigs, hats, and scarves for oncology patients. Funds from the Foundation help to provide for the needs of the Boutique.

Kay’s Kare Packs are bags containing small supplies, supplements, and inspiration from a partner charity, Keep Life Jumping 4 Kay of Ulysses, KS.

Telepsychiatry

Through a grant from the Centene Foundation and Sunflower Health Plan of Kansas, 24-7 access to psychiatry providers is available to our inpatient population, clinic patients, and emergency department patients through telemedicine technology.

Pediatric Education Materials

Your gifts provided interactive education materials for parents of children in the care of our pediatric clinic to ensure a healthy start for our youngest patients.

Bilirubin Analyzer

A grant provided funding for a bilirubin analyzer that allows a fast, accurate, and painless option to check infants for jaundice immediately after birth.

iPads

iPads are used with approved applications to entertain our young patients while undergoing procedures and also to furnish remote translation services for our diverse patient population.

Stair Climbers

The Center for Health Improvement at the Bickle/Eagle Health Complex has equipment, classes, facilities, and staff to help people of all ages maintain a healthy lifestyle. Two new stair climbers have proven popular training aids among The Center members.

Continuing Care Support

The Foundation supports HaysMed’s Continuing Care Department to ensure patients have access to minor medical equipment and medications recommended by their providers to ensure a successful transition from the care they received while in our facility.

Hospice Support

Through your generous support, Hospice is able to provide care for patients and support services for their families in their own homes. The purchase of a reliable all-wheel drive vehicle and a personal safety app ensures our hospice nurses can safely care for patients who live in even the most rural areas.

Human Trafficking Education

Gifts helped to fund a two-day, three session education event for health care workers on the topic of human trafficking with a well-known industry expert.

Hybrid Operating Room

The Hybrid Operating Room has been an active project for several years, and it is scheduled to be completed and operational in early 2025. This new facility will expand HaysMed’s DeBakey Heart Institute providers ability to perform various procedures, like trans-aortic valve replacement, that used to require open heart surgery but can now be done in a minimally invasive manner. As a result, many heart patients can return to work and to their families in days instead of weeks.

Certifications and Education

Through the generosity of many donors, the HaysMed Foundation is able to provide support for Associates seeking professional enrichment. Whether Associates are pursuing an advanced academic degree, professional certification, or attending a training program or conference, we are pleased to provide a variety of scholarships and continuing education grants to enhance their professional growth. These opportunities help Associates provide higher levels of care and better patient outcomes.

Thank You HaysMed Day

Thanks to the generosity of The Schmidt Foundation, Glassman Corporation (Joe and Linda Glassman), the Hadley Foundation, Gary and Mary Ann Shorman, and Women Who Lead, HaysMed Associates were honored at the third annual Thank You HaysMed Day. Associates received a meal from local food truck vendors and were entered into a drawing for amazing prizes. This special day expresses appreciation to the HaysMed Team for the care they provide.
