My client is interested in making an estate gift for Hays Medical Center. Whom should I contact?

My client has included a bequest to the Foundation in his estate plans but wishes to remain anonymous. Is that possible?

Yes, we are happy to keep your client's name and/or the details of their gift confidential. However, we hope that they are willing to share their name with us so that we can thank them personally for including the Foundation in their plans. We would also like to include them in the Paul and Virginia Miller Society and invite them to special events, such as the annual Society luncheon. If they are willing, we would appreciate being given the opportunity to review a copy of your client's estate planning documents that involve the HaysMed Foundation in order to ensure that we have a complete understanding of their gift so that we can carry out their gift as they intend when their gift arrives.

Can gifts be restricted for a particular purpose?

Yes, they can. However, since the gift may not arrive for many years in the future, it is important that the gift either be for a timeless need or be flexible enough to be able to be put to good use when it arrives. Examples of timeless restrictions include support for facilities or technology. Specific names of programs and departments can change over time, so we encourage you to use language in the will, trust or other gift document that provides some flexibility for the medical center to apply the gift to a substantially similar purpose.
