Residuary bequest—names the HaysMed Foundation as recipient of all or a percentage of the remainder of the estate after specific bequests have been fulfilled.

Specific bequest—states a specific amount or specific asset. It may be a gift of cash, securities or a gift of real estate or tangible personal property.

Contingent bequest—takes affect only if all primary beneficiaries named in the will are predeceased.  Declaring the HaysMed Foundation a contingent beneficiary can prevent the property from going to the State if there are no heirs.

Testamentary trust—designates that part or all of the estate is left in a trust, with income and/or principal paid to the HaysMed Foundation.

Transfer on death (TOD) deed—A Kansas transfer-on-death (TOD) deed is a legal document that allows a property owner to name a beneficiary who will receive the property after the owner's death, bypassing probate. To be valid, the deed must be signed by the owner, have their signature notarized, and then be recorded with the register of deeds in the county where the property is located before the owner's death. During the owner's lifetime, they retain full control of the property and can revoke or change the deed at any time.
