SANE Training Offered at HaysMed

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is a specially trained nurse who is able to identify, document, collect evidence, and provide comprehensive medical care for sexual assault victims and perpetrators.

In May, HaysMed held the fifth SANE training program, and the first to utilize the Stroup Hall Simulation Center. Skill stations and adult/adolescent sexual assault scenarios allow the nurses to gain invaluable clinical hands-on experience and test their skills. Nursing instructors for the program were: Trisha Haskell, Jessica Albers, and Heather Shelton.

This two-day program, the only one of its kind in Kansas, is made possible through funding from a HaysMed Foundation departmental grant fund, and a $1,000 grant from the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV).
