"Leaves of Life" was created in part through the generosity of family and friends in loving memory of Lanita (Karst) Smith.
Lanita worked as the Director of Medical/Surgical and Inpatient Oncology Services at HaysMed for many years. Lanita passed away in the fall of 2007 from breast cancer. Lanita's dedication to her family and to her work even through her last days will live in our hearts forever. She made a poitive difference for all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her legacy remains one of service and of love.
The Leaves of Life sculpture by James Mages, located in the Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute, honors the memory of loved ones and celebrates survivors of cancer.
