Honoring Dr. Paul McRae

Dr. Paul McRae

An endowed fund has been established in honor of Dr. Paul
McRae through a $250,000 memorial gift from the Hadley
Foundation. The endowed fund will benefit Cardiac Health
at the DeBakey Heart Institute. McRae served on the Hadley
Regional Medical Center and Hadley Foundation Boards of
Directors for a combined 52 years prior to his passing last
September.

Alan Moore, close friend and fellow-board member, announced the gift at the 2025 HaysMed Gala:

“I want to welcome everyone tonight to the HaysMed Foundation Benefit Gala and thank you for the opportunity to share a little information about a very special member of the Hadley Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors who passed away on September 2, 2024.

Paul Alan McRae was born on August 2, 1933 in rural Graham County, Kansas.

Paul dedicated his life to his family, his veterinary practice, farming and ranching. He was veteran, a dairy producer, a beef cattle producer, a pioneer in the practice of cattle embryo transfer, and an aviator. As an aviator, if Paul were here tonight helping us celebrate this evenings festivities he would certainly appreciate the theme of “FLY ME TO THE MOON”.

Despite Paul’s business and family commitments, he volunteered and was elected to be a Director of the Hadley Memorial Hospital, which eventually became the Hadley Regional Medical Center, in the early 1970s. Paul was elected to serve as a Director of The Hadley Foundation, Inc. upon the merger of the Hadley Regional Medical Center and St. Anthony Hospitals in 1991 when HaysMed was established.

Paul served as the Board’s adviser and was the principal guardian of the Foundation’s 3,000 acres of grassland in the canyons and valley along the Saline River north of Hays known as the “Hadley Ranch”.

Paul loved and appreciated the resources of the Ranch and all the wildlife that made it their home. He also understood the importance of its natural resources which contributed greatly to enhance medical care in Ellis County since the 1940s.

Paul believed that the Ranch in all its beauty was a gift to be appreciated, nurtured and preserved and his common sense, expertise and knowledge of the Ranch over many decades contributed in the development of its resources which ultimately enhanced healthcare in Ellis County and the surrounding area.

Paul is missed, but his commitment and contributions to The Hadley Foundation, Inc. and healthcare of Ellis County will be remembered for many years to come.

At the time of Paul’s passing, he had been a Director either on the Hadley Regional Medical Center Board or The Hadley Foundation, Inc. Board for a combined total of over 52 years.

The current Board of Directors of the Hadley Foundation, Inc. recognizes Paul Alan McRae, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or Paul as his friends called him, for over 52 years of committed and loyal service to the Hadley Memorial Hospital, Hadley Regional Medical Center, and The Hadley Foundation, Inc.

With this recognition, on behave of the Hadley Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, it is my pleasure and honor to announce this evening the establishment of the Dr. Paul Alan McRae Memorial endowment to HaysMed in the amount of $250,000.00 to be used to help facilitate heart health care.
