Our Brand: Symbols and Significance

Design/Graphic Elements:

The round icon in the HaysMed Foundation logo is symbolic of a windmill, ubiquitous not only on the landscape of rural Kansas, but also on the grounds of Hays Medical Center. Windmills are often used as symbols of transformation in that they harness the wind and transform it into practical benefits. In the case of windmills in Kansas, the power of the wind has historically been transformed into availability of water for homesteads and livestock, and now also into sustainable energy in the form of electricity. In the case of the HaysMed Foundation, donors’ support is transformed into practical benefits for the people and projects of HaysMed in the form of education, equipment, and expansion that benefits our patients, guests, and our own Associates. The sweeping motion in the windmill icon creates movement, indicating the activity of the HaysMed Foundation.

The rolling horizon shape underlining it all is not only a familiar sight to rural Kansans, but also symbolizes movement toward evolving goals. The horizon moves as we move toward it reminding us that in order to reach new outcomes and gain new perspectives we must continue advancing.

Both the windmill icon and the horizon are created using elements of our previous logo, symbolizing the debt we owe to the people who both envisioned and advanced the work of the HaysMed Foundation for our first 30 years.

Colors:

The selected blue color is a tribute to Hays Medical Center, whose mission we work to advance. Green has long been a symbol of growth and prosperity, two concepts at the core of our mission. The use of color variation in the windmill icon give dimension and hints at highlights created by the sun.

Fonts:

The HaysMed font draws a strong tie to the organization and people we serve. The modern, simple font used in the word, “Foundation,” indicates our roots as a forward-looking organization focused on practical practices and outcomes.
