HaysMed is a private, not-for-profit hospital formed by the 1991 merger of two religiously affiliated facilities, and offers the only major level service in the region. The 207-bed facility serves a population of about 130,000 citizens in northwestern Kansas and is located on a spacious campus in northeast Hays. The hospital employs more than 1,500 hard-working, dedicated citizens who truly believe in the delivery of quality health care. HaysMed delivers exceptional care to the people we serve.

The Michael E. DeBakey Heart Institute is the primary provider of heart surgery and cardiac care for people in western Kansas. HaysMed is also well known and respected for its cancer prevention and treatment programs through the Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute.

HaysMed provides medical, surgical, and pediatric care along with cardiac, neonatal and intensive care units; cancer, joint care, diagnostic imaging and eye surgery center; the sleep center, and inpatient rehabilitation programs with occupational medicine and independent physician clinics. HaysMed also provides support to more than 20 rural hospitals across the state, together with bio-medical engineering and mobile diagnostics. Learn more about HaysMed services here.

Last year HaysMed admitted 6,033 patients, treated 13,337 patients in the Emergency Room, and additional 172,421 citizens as outpatients, and more than 135,000 patients were seen at the hospital’s medical group’s specialty and rural health clinics. HaysMed has been awarded numerous honors for its outstanding patient care and satisfaction and for its telemedicine programs.
